Speaking in Zurich and London

I am delighted to be speaking at two sessions on the theme of anti-Semitism in October.

On 7 October – the first anniversary of the Hamas pogrom – I will be participating in a debate organised by the Zurich Salon  on “Gaza, Israel and anti-Semitism”. Dominik Feusi, a Swiss journalist, will be on my side. Our opponents include Thomas Fazi, an Anglo-Italian journalist and Stefan Ziegler, a researcher and advocate related to humanitarian action. The debate will start at 7pm at 60 Stauffacherstrasse 8004 Zürich. It will be conducted in English.

Then on Sunday 20 October, as part of that weekend’s annual Battle of Ideas festival, I will be speaking on anti-Semitism on campus. Greg Lukianoff of the Foundation for Individual Rights (FIRE), an American organisation, will also be on the panel as well Baroness Ruth Deech, a cross-bench peer in the House of Lords, and Edward Skidelsky, a philosophy lecturer.

UPDATE: The picture at the top of this article has been updated to reflect the fact that two new speakers in Zurich have replaced two who dropped out. Ruth Deech and Edward Skidelsky have been added as speaker at the London session.

The aftermath of the 7 October Hamas pogrom in Israel has made the rethinking of anti-Semitism a more urgent task than ever. Both the extent and character of anti-Semitism is changing. Tragically the open expression of anti-Semitic views is once again becoming respectable. It has also become clearer than ever that anti-Semitism is no longer largely confined to the far right. Woke anti-Semitism and Islamism have also become significant forces.

Under these circumstances I am keen not only to maintain this site but to extend its impact. That means raising funds.
